Candidate Filing for Office

Candidate filings will be posted to the Secretary of State’s Candidate Filing page as they are received within 24 hours. These candidates will appear on the November ballot.

Notice of Candidate Filing for Municipal Office 2026

Notice is hereby given pursuant to Minnesota Statute 205.13; Subd 2, that candidate filings for the City of Northome elected offices will begin:

  • Filing opens: July 14th, 2026 from 8am – 4pm and filing can be done daily Monday 8am-12pm, Tuesday through Thursday 8am-4pm until July 28th, 2026 at 4pm.
  • Filing Closes: July 28th, 2026 at 5pm.

Candidates for City offices file with the Northome City Clerk at City Hall, 12068 Main St., Northome, MN.

City Offices

Regular Municipal Election to elect:

  • Mayor for a term of two years
  • City Councilmember (2 seats) for a full term of four years each.

Cost to File

The cost to file an Affidavit of Candidacy is $2 pursuant to Minnesota Statute 205.13; Subd 3. A candidate for municipal office may file a petition in place of the filing fees. For more info on this, contact the City Clerk.

Withdrawal of Candidacy

A candidate for a municipal elective office may withdraw from the election by filing an Affidavit of Withdrawal with the municipal clerk no later than 5:00 pm on July 30th, 2026. The filing fee is not refundable.

Absentee Voting

KOOCHICHING COUNTY NOTICE OF DAYS, TIMES & LOCATIONS FOR ABSENTEE VOTING

  • The State Primary Election is on August 11, 2026, and is a partisan election that allows voters to vote for candidates of one political party and potentially nonpartisan offices to select candidates to move forward to the November general election ballot.
    • Absentee voting starts June 26th, 2026. All Koochiching County voters may vote early in person at the County Auditor’s Office during normal business hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, except legal holidays.) The office will also be open for voting on Saturday, August 8th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and August 10th until 5 p.m. Voters may also request that an absentee ballot be mailed to them.
  • The State General Election is on November 3, 2026. Federal, State, County and other local races will be included on this ballot.
    • Absentee voting starts September 18th, 2026. All Koochiching County voters may vote early in person at the County Auditor’s office during normal business hours (8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) Monday – Friday, except legal holidays. The office will be open for the following additional hours: October 24th & 31st and November 1st from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and October 27th until 7 p.m. Voters may also request to have an absentee ballot mailed to them.
